Student volunteers (SVs) are an essential part of a successful conference. At CUI, you will help the organisation and make sure everything runs smoothly during the conference.

Enrolment as a Student Volunteer

CUI 2027 will take place in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom from July 26-28, 2027.

You must be enrolled as a student during the Summer 2027 term (or equivalent). We welcome undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students. What matters most is that you are friendly and enthusiastic about being part of CUI!

The SV call closes on TBC March 2027 (AoE).

We will be accepting in-person SVs for this year’s conference in Swansea.

The selection results will be announced on TBC April 2027. Once you have a confirmed spot and registration is open, you will be required to register. You will receive instructions after your application is confirmed. If you are placed on the waitlist and a spot becomes available, you will be informed immediately.

If you register before selections are announced, your registration will be refunded.

T-Shirt Design Competition

Every year, student volunteers receive a T-shirt featuring a design created by one of their peers. If you possess inventive logo ideas, don't hesitate to try your hand at it! The winner will be granted the chance to attend the conference as a student volunteer. Additionally, your name will be recognised on the CUI 2027 website.

To participate, please send your designs to the SV chairs (sv2027@cui.acm.org). Here are the requirements to participate:

  • You need to be a student.
  • The logo should be in the spirit of the conference.
  • The logo should be your own creation.

The T-shirt design competition closes on TBC June 2027.

What will I do when I volunteer?

As a CUI 2027 SV, you will agree to:

  • Work at least 16 hours (if you are presenting a paper, we will ensure you do not have volunteer duties during that time)
  • Show up on time to tasks
  • Attend an orientation session just before the conference (date TBD)
  • Arrive at the conference by Saturday morning at the latest

In return, we commit to:

  • Waive your CUI 2027 registration fee
  • Provide meals during the conference (breakfast, coffee breaks, and lunch)
  • A free SV t-shirt to be collected on site

If you need to reach us, please use sv2027@cui.acm.org so all SV chairs receive it. Reply-to-all on our correspondence so we stay in the loop and can help faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I find the form to apply?
A: Once application opens, the link will be made available here.

Q: The application deadline has passed. Can I still be considered?
A: We only consider applications submitted by the deadline to keep the process fair and consistent for everyone.

Q: Can I skip orientation, work much less than 16 hours, arrive late, or leave early and still be an SV?
A: SV roles rely on predictable coverage, so we expect SVs to meet the full commitment. If an exceptional situation arises after you receive a spot, email sv2027@cui.acm.org as soon as possible and we will coordinate next steps.

Q: I missed your emails and/or did not register by the deadline and lost my SV spot. Can I get it back?
A: Email sv2027@cui.acm.org immediately with the situation. If a waitlisted SV has already accepted the spot, reinstatement may not be possible.

We look forward to meeting all of you!
