SIGCHI CARES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sigchi.org\/about\/sigchi-cares\/\">SIGCHI CARES<\/a> exists to serve as a resource for those who experience discrimination and\/or harassment in violation of ACM\u2019s policies governing SIG activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acm.org\/diversity-inclusion\/stop-harassment\">policy against discrimination and harassment<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acm.org\/publications\/policies\/plagiarism-overview\">policy on plagiarism, misrepresentation, and falsification<\/a>;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acm.org\/publications\/policies\/coercion-and-abuse\">policy on coercion and abuse in the ACM publications process<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acm.org\/publications\/policies\/peer-review\">policy on peer review<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CARES supports such individuals by allowing them to work with established members of the SIGCHI community, who are approachable and willing to listen and help navigate the SIGCHI and ACM reporting and accountability process. Our goal is to empower all SIGCHI community members to speak up if we observe such behavior. Note that in certain cases of imminent danger, including threats of violence, suicide, harm to children, etc., CARES committee members are required to report to appropriate authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CARES committee was initially formed in January 2020, and the SIGCHI Executive Committee (EC) approved and appointed an initial fourteen members (see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sigchi.org\/people\/committees\/cares\/\">membership<\/a>). SIGCHI CARES is a committee of SIGCHI. This relationship is expected to continue in perpetuity, and any changes to the rules of governance must be approved by the SIGCHI EC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maria Wolters and Katie Seaborn are the CARES representatives for CUI 2026.
